Lesson 9 - Demonstration That Studying Chess Tactics Bring Success
"Of course, errors are not good for a chess game, but errors are unavoidable and in any case, a game without any errors, or as they say 'flawless game' is colorless."
- Mikhail Tal
All this theory seems quite interresting... but is there any proof that tactics helps in adding some easy wins to our palmares? Well, I will show you two of my own games where my tactical skills did help me to secure easy wins!
I played the following games at my local chess club. My ELO rating was about 1400 (average chess club player) and we could categorized my opponents as being new chess enthousiastics knowing the rules of the games with some experience. By going through the commented games, you will see by yourself that tactic knowledge could create big imbalances in a game...!
Winning these games seemed like a breeze... but in reality, my opponents made it really easy for me. When doing the post-mortem analysis with them, my opponents have confessed that they were not really familiar with tactics. After this demonstration, I hope they realized the importance of taking some time to study them! At this level of play, a player can improve his level drastically by studying tactics and working on chess problems to sharpen his tactical eye and start climbing the ladder of success. It is now your turn to benefit from them... and you know what? There is still so much secrets to learn from them! We will have the chance to discover other secrets in the next two lessons.
I encourage you to try the exercises containing a lot of puzzles before going any further.
I do not recommend it, but you can also skip the exercises and go directly to the next lesson and learn about other tactics.
